The project to revitalize Hotel Syracuse in the heart of the Salt City was the big winner in Central New York among New York’s Top Performer Awardees on Thursday.
It's part of the Regional Economic Development Council initiative which is the centerpiece of Governor Cuomo's strategy to jumpstart the economy.
Thursday he announced that $709 million will go to businesses around the state and a lot of the funding is coming to Central New York.
Hotel Syracuse will receive $3.6 million to help finance the massive project.
The city of Syracuse hopes the hotel will one day become the hotel it needs to host major conventions.
As recently as March, developers said the hotel was on its last legs.
Hotel Syracuse wasn’t the only winner on Thursday – over $80 million went to projects throughout the region.
