Police are warning people about a pair of scams targeting hotel guests. In one instance, a caller claiming to be a front desk employee says they are having trouble with your credit card and ask for the number again so you don’t have to go back to the lobby. Hotel room phones have no caller ID and operators normally transfer calls through when someone asks for a specific room number, making it hard for the guest to know where the call is actually coming from. There is also word about people placing vouchers for restaurants under hotel room doors with a personal number instead of the actual business. Once you hand over your credit card information, the suspects have your personal info. Police warn that these crimes are difficult to prosecute because it is hard to track down the suspects.
