Richmond Police Chief Alfred Durham introduced a new program Thursday which aims to crack down on crimes at motels and hotels. CHAMPS, which stands for coalition of hotel and motel properties, is
a brand new partnership between the RPD and local hotel and motel owners. The goal is to make the establishments safer for both patrons and employees. During a meeting, Durham explained that
typically when hotel and/or motel owners see police, something bad has already happened. CHAMPS is aimed at preventing those incidents. Durham further explained that the most common forms of
crime that occur at hotels and motels are prostitution, narcotics and gang activity.
