Texas - Austin’s largest hotel is now under construction, and city and state leaders say it could bring even more large events to town. A groundbreaking event was held Monday morning for the $370 million Fairmont Hotel.
The luxury hotel will be located right next to the Austin Convention Center on Cesar Chavez and Red River.
Gov. Rick Perry spoke at the event saying the hotel will allow Austin to be considered for more meetings and conventions, bringing even more revenue to the local economy.
“This is going to be a bright beacon in the city of Austin. When this is completed in 30 months, no, it will be completed in 29 months,” Perry said. “Under budget and inside that time frame– right? This is Texas. We can do this! But that (hotel) is going to be a beacon, all across this country, all across the world.”
Once construction is complete there will be 1,060 rooms, a four-level underground parking garage, and a walkway that leads directly to the convention center.
The Fairmont Hotel is expected to open in June 2017.
