'Tis the season for gingerbread houses in Charlottesville. The DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel is hosting its annual gingerbread village display Monday at 6 p.m. This year, the gingerbread village is
raising money for the University of Virginia Children's Hospital.
The public is invited to come and see all of the houses, visit with Santa and Mrs. Claus, as well as Maddie the Elf.
There's a replica of the Rotunda complete with a bust of Thomas Jefferson, a replica of the new Battle Building, an igloo, and a stable full of reindeer in the village. The culinary staff at the hotel spent over 275 hours creating the village. They used 125 pounds of flour and 355 pounds of sugar.
"We feel like it's such a wonderful cause and this time of year we really wanted to be, to focus on children and just a really strong community partner,” said Beth Ann Boone, Doubletree by Hilton Hotel
So far, they've raised about $2,000.
Monday night, proceeds from their signature DoubleTree chocolate chip cookies will also go to the UVA Children's Hospital.
