Airbnb chief seeks competition but not war with hotels

Silicon Valley start-up Airbnb is shaking up the travel industry by allowing visitors to book and pay for rooms in people's homes as an alternative to hotels or hostels.

But the six-year-old company's business model is causing controversy with concerns its members do not need to meet the same safety standards as their traditional rivals and claims that they may be breaking the law in cities including New York and San Francisco where restrictions on short-term rents exist.

The BBC's Joe Lynam met with the Airbnb's chief executive Brian Chesky to ask how he responds to such criticism.
