Getting to buy school supplies can be an exciting time for some students. With another school year right around the corner, Aberdeen hotels are looking to help out students in need.
Kari Lozenski is the general manager at the AmericInn in Aberdeen. She is the one who thought of the new project that has people donating new school supplies for kids in need.
"I have small children, and since my daughter has been in school, I have noticed that there is a need for a lot of things, school supplies being one of them," Lozenski said. The Aberdeen Hotel Alliance has launched the new project. It is matching up to $2,000 in donations. Alliance members say their goal is to all kids have the opportunity to have a good school experience.
"It's for kids that maybe don't have the funds to get all these school supplies. School isn't really a draw for them to go because they don't get the excitement of going to pick out their own school supplies, and getting the colors and items they want. This is a way for them to get all the supplies they need and really feel like they are along with their peers," Aberdeen Hotel Alliance Coordinator Sabrina Metz said.
Donations for school supplies are being accepted at all Aberdeen hotels until August 10. When you donate, your name will be put into a drawing for a free night stay at that hotel.
"We figured that each hotel could give a free night's stay. When you drop off to any hotel in town you get entered into a drawing for a free nights stay at that hotel. So if you wanted to you could drop off at 3 or 4 hotels in town and be entered in a drawing for a free night's stay at those hotels," Metz said.
The donations will be going to all the elementary schools in the Aberdeen Public School District. For more information about the project, visit www.VisitAberdeenSD.com/School.
